The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 70,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 3 days for that many people to see it.

A Review of Comments On CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

A REVIEW OF SIX YEARS OF

COMMENTS ON CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

Because CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS is coming to an end (later December posts will update you on the magazine’s evolution to CAROLYN’S ONLINE MAGAZINE : COMe) I decided to review and list some of the comments received over its 6 year life.

Comments indicate connection with readers. They add meaning to my writing—I’m reaching someone, entertaining them, introducing them to new topics and ideas, perhaps providing insight. Often they add corrective comments. More often they are uplifting.

The many wonderful comments received by CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS  during its lifespan encourage me to move on to creating a follow up blog—information on CAROLYN’S ONLINE MAGAZINE will be provided, hopefully, on January 1, 2015, and posted on this blog so you won’t lose any of my delightful writing. (OK, so there has to be some humor!)

Below is a list of only a few of the comments made on CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS.

An (Internationally) Adopted Adult Tells His Story Carolyn, thank you for sharing Mark’s story. I admire Sam and Annette for giving loving homes to these special children.  Merri

My Sister and I: Cluttered Versus Neat Home I’ve read that clutter is conducive to creativity. So look at it this way: You’re not neglecting your housecleaning, you’re fostering your creativity!  Danny

CAROLYN’S BIO My husband sent me the link to this bio on you, from the Upper Room’s devotional, first thing this morning. His words, “She looks like someone you would like.” I have always had writing aspirations, but even though I write a commentary daily on the day’s devotion, I have little time (more…)

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

COMPLETES EIGHT YEARS

For some reason, for some years after my 1966 marriage to my current husband Monte I “forgot” his birthday.

That statement isn’t totally true. What was true was that I “missed” his birthday, because I mistakenly had it in my head that it was June 18 when it was, in fact, June 12. While I was preparing to honor Monte’s birth the actual date passed me by. It took a number of years for me to do things in a timely fashion.

Birthdays are important in that they mark milestones, not only in the lives of individuals, but in the lives of other events.

So I must confess. I misread the birthday for CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS, thus believing it was February 19 when it was, in fact, February 5.

Lest I let the month of February 2014 pass by without noting that in this month, in year 2008, on the 5th day, I posted my first article on CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS.

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS originally began on another host site, which I can only confirm back to October 4, 2006.. However, in 2007 that site changed ownership. It held the top position in blog site visits for that host site.

When the new ownership took over, it asked those of us with blogs what we wanted in our blogs. I said it was important to have the folders, and the list of the folders.

When the format was changed it became unworkable for my purposes:

  • It no longer used folders—to find a post, a reader had to (more…)

Carolyn’s Compositions 2013 Review

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

WORDPRESS EVALUATION FOR 2013

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog. I thought some of you would enjoy reviewing  information on CAROLYN’S CREATIONS.

CAROLYN’S CREATIONS has a magazine-type format. Therefore it is not focused on one subject. , it covers many topics, as a magazine does.

Here’s an excerpt:

Madison Square Garden can seat 20,000 people for a concert. This blog was viewed about 61,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Madison Square Garden, it would take about 3 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

ALL THE ELEMENTS OF A GOOD MURDER STORY…

On December 28, 1975, 29-year-old John Mudd was murdered in the basement of his Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, home. His wife Arlene Mudd and their five-year-old son, John Mudd, Jr., were in the living room.

Suspect Steven G. Slutzker lived across the street from John Mudd. He escaped a homicide charge even though he attempted to hire a man to kill John Mudd a week before the crime was committed. He was also having an affair with John Mudd’s wife, Arlene Mudd. A judge decided there simply wasn’t sufficient evidence to go to trial.

In November 1990 John Mudd Jr. recovered repressed memories. He recalled seeing his father’s body in the basement and then seeing Slutzker running away from the Mudd home. Based on this testimony Slutzker was arrested. Upon being convicted of John Mudd’s murder in January 1992 he was sentenced to life in prison.

The Wilkinsburg story contains all the elements of a good murder story.

WHAT IS THIS MURDER STORY’S

CONNECTION WITH LAUGHLINTOWN?

In 1989 Steven Slutzker fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening Scituate Harbor, a 18th century furniture dealership based in Scituate, Massachusetts. Both his name and the name of his wife, Joyce Slutzker, are listed on a flyer for the Pittsburgh store.

I was—and still am—mystified.

Why did my post Groundhog Day—Children’s Stories & Poems accumulate the highest number of visits ever on February 2, 2013?

2092 visits that day for a groundhog post?

True, it was Groundhog Day. Still, 2092 is an exorbitant number of visits for my rinky-dink little blog. What adds to the mystery is that this blog still receives visits on a regular basis—accumulating 5386 visits to date. It is the 4th most visited post, following Home page / Archives (37,387),  CHILD ABUSE AND SCRIPTURE (8695), and THE HOLOCAUST STORY OF A TEENAGE VICTIM (Part 1) (6426).

IMG_6173

Statistically, CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS ranks 1,389,365th among wordpress blogs in the United States, and 5,936,285th globally.**

I’m a miniscule, little runt among 67,838,445 other blogs hosted by wordPress.** My measly 231,052 post visits in 5 years, 4 months, have come from all over the globe.

So what if my site is miniscule? It’s been viewed by readers in Sweden, Singapore, Italy, Australia, Jordan, Egypt (I can even identify some of the readers in these contries), as well as Russia, Brazil, and other countries too numerous to list—including some I have never heard of.  It’s a global connection in a small package.

I believe it’s not the size of something that makes it a success. It’s the quality and the response.

As for quality, I’ll let my readers be the judge.

graphics-fireworks-984935

But for the response I do have some input.

Perhaps the greatest value of CAROLYN’S CREATIONS came from its connections and interactions. On January 19, 2011, the following comment appeared on CAROLYN’S BIO (and another post—repeated 3 times):

HI,

I’m not sure HOW I found you and not sure where to write this, but PLEASE CONTACT ME. My mother is adopted, and I recently helped her get her REAL birth certificate (she was denied in earlier years) and we JUST got her REAL birth certificate. She was born in…(comment edited due to private information…Carolyn)

My response? I’m being spammed, I told my husband. However, what could it hurt to (more…)

This WordPress Site Is Malfunctioning

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS
THIS WORDPRESS SITE IS MALFUNCTIONING

Update: The problem isn’t completely resolved, but I discovered I can access the edit icons. The continuing problem is that only one icon shows, and only when the little arrow is over it. I’d like to get the edit row to be completely visivle as I do posting, but I can manage as it is.

Have you read this post:

WP Daily Prompt 3/4/2013: A Story Written Using No “N”, Another With No “E”

To my steady and other readers: Please be patient.

I apologize for the interruption in posting. CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS is temporarily (I hope) disabled. The edit bar and its correction, as well as the kitchen sink icon, are missing from my post and edit post locations.

In checking, my other two wordPress blogs (Intertwined Love @ http://www.intertwinedlove.wordpress.com and the Beanery Writers Online Literary Magazine @ http://www.beanerywriters.wordpress.com) are experiencing the same problem.

My husband and I have spent quite a bit of time attempting to solve the problem, with no success.

Is there any other wordPress blog experiencing this difficulty?

I had hopes post 995 would be completed on schedule on June 18. However, there has been no resolution to this problem thus far. I am waiting patiently to hear from the wordpress folks.

Please enjoy some of the older 994 posts during this disruption.  Thank you.

Shoplifting in Munich, Germany?

As the Munich, Germany, shopkeeper looked at me with suspicion, I knew he was about to call the police to accuse me of shoplifting.

We spent two weeks in Munich, Germany, visiting my son when he held a post-doctorate position at the Max Planck Institute. While there, I was almost arrested for shoplifting another local newspaper.

Early one day my husband and I stopped at the newspaper office, located off the main square. It was a site I wanted to visit, since I’d written for (more…)

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS TOP TWELVE POSTS

From the conception of CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS on February 5, 2008, certain posts have been withstood the test of time. I thought it would be interesting to review the top twelve most viewed posts.

Note that some of these posts have had longevity on the site. Newer posts, especially the most recent, may become equally popular but haven’t had the time to accumulate the same high number of visits.

However, I’ve noticed through the years that the top ten posts listed below are visited consistently, and seem to have holding power.

WORKPACE STRESS REDUCTION ACTIVITIES: MORTIFYING AND FUN

My older sister would be mortified. She wouldn’t have a Slinky, Etch-a-Sketch, toy, or—heaven forbid, a squirt gun—on her office desk.

However, the AP article I read in the late 1990s stated: “America’s office workers are getting in touch with their inner child. At their desks and computers, they are playing with toys—Slinkys…Etch-a-Sketch key chains…and squirt guns.”

My sister follows rules for office propriety, and always warned me to act appropriately when I visited her workplace. As if I wouldn’t consider…(to continue reading WORKPLACE STRESS REDUCTION ACTIVITIES: MORTIFYING AND FUN click on https://carolyncholland.wordpress.com/2008/03/14/workplace-stress-reduction-activities-mortifying-and-fun/ )
