Flight 93 Temporary Memorial 9/8/2011

     We were in Italy at the Leaning Tower of Pisa when someone ran by yelling these words. Little did we know, at the time, that a plane (United Airlines Flight 93) had flown somewhat almost over our home in Stahlstown (Pennsylvania). 

     As we continued our travels in Italy and Greece people were so kind to us. They showered their love on us with moments of silence, bottles of wine, and food. I was so taken aback by these expressions of love.

     The above story was shared with us under a sunny sky, over buckwheat pancakes smothered in real maple syrup accompanied by sausage, having a conversation with Larry and Beth Thorn from Stahlstown (owners of Whispering Pines Antiques).

     Monte and I chose to attend the Sunday morning outdoor church service at the Flax Scutching Festival in Stahlstown, Pennsylvania, rather than one of the other events of the weekend that included the Scottish service at the Presbyterian church in Ligonier, a follow-up on the Ligonier Highlands Games the previous day; the Flight 93 Tenth Anniversary.

     A pre-service presentation began with eight young men, including a young child, all dressed in early American military attire, carrying in a flag. The lined up at the side, and did a seven-gun salute (the youngster participated with a non-shot gun).  A woman in the congregation panicked and began (more…)
