Do I Want To Increase Traffic or To Increase Comments to My Blog?

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011

DO I WANT TO INCREASE TRAFFIC

OR

TO INCREASE COMMENTS TO MY BLOG?

The WordPress question of May 9, 2011, was: How can we help you get more traffic for your posts? They suggested using two core features, both involving twitter and facebook. Unfortunately, I am not involved in either social network at this time.

Although I would love more traffic to my site, I realize that commenters are more important, because they mean I have connected. Traffic for the sake of traffic, eg. spam traffic, doesn’t impress me.

I’ve discovered connections are neat. My post KILLED STRANGELY: A NEW ENGLAND MURDER STORY has generated the most connections over time. Descendants of the Cornell family (Portsmouth, R. I.) meet at this post, and share their stories photographs.

The most meaningful connection was the January 19th comments that connected me with  my full-sister my mother released for adoption in 1953 ( Adoptee Finds Biological Family: Mine ). A post My Mother’s Secret: An Adoption Story generated some controversial traffic.

Of course since everyone wants traffic…but for, the more important question is how do I encourage commenters?  Although I realize that greater traffic means greater opportunity for comments and connections, traffic for the sake of traffic, eg. spam traffic, doesn’t impress me.

…there is no magic solution. I agree. I would like more traffic to my site—but even more importantly, I want to connect with my readers! I wish I knew how to respond to your statement: But if there are things we can provide, or make easier, we want to know about them.

My only answer is to work hard and be persistent. Which I will continue to do.

  1. You might want to try more niche articles that are very informative to your readers, this might help persuade them to respond more. The articles you post should be informative with useful information that are helpful to your readers. another thing you might try is polls.

  2. Good post. I learn something new and challenging on sites I
stumbleupon every day. It will always be useful to read through
articles from other writers and practice something from other web sites.
