Statistical Analysis of My WordPress.com Blog

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF MY WORDPRESS.COM BLOG

Call me WordPress challenged, blog challenged, computer challenged, technology challenged—whatever moniker you want to tag me with. It will explain how, after several years of managing up to five WordPress blogs, I just this week discovered some statistics on the sites that I didn’t realize were there.

I’d been trying to analyze the popularity of posts on my blog, knowing it would be a monumental task. What I discovered is that the WordPress host site is doing the work for me in their statistics displays—which are provided for all-time, year, thirty days, seven days, and daily times..

A review of the statistics reinforced my sense about the “popularity” of particular posts and reaffirmed my feelings about topics readers find most interesting, readable, and/or helpful. For all my feeling “challenged,” I know I must consider that recent posts will, due to the unequal time element, have less “hits.”

I also must admit that I am not following the advice of persons who are more expert at blogging than I am. That is, my blog does not have a “niche” topic. Because it is a writing blog topics have a wide range—BIBLICAL, blogging, Cats, COCHRAN’S SHENANIGANS, DEVOTIONS, GENEALOGY, HUMOR, JOURNAL, MEMOIRS, NEW ENGLAND, NOVEL SEGMENTS, OP-ED, PHOTOGRAPHY, Poetry, ROMANCE STORIES, TRAVEL, WRITING TOPICS, etc.

My scrutiny of the statistics revealed what posts, and which categories, received the most attention.

The top post is CHILD ABUSE AND SCRIPTURE. It has held one of the top three spots in the year, quarter, month, and week stats.

Since the second contender, CHILDREN LEFT HOME ALONE (or in cars alone), is also about child neglect and abuse, I must conclude that there is a strong interest in this issue, which my categories https://carolyncholland.wordpress.com/category/child-abuse-issues/    and  https://carolyncholland.wordpress.com/category/child-abuse-issues/domestic-violence/ address.

The third post on the list is IN SEARCH OF THE ARABELLA: A Story of Two Boats. Perhaps the Arabella boat post gained popularity due to one of the boats being very historical—Between April 8 and June 12, 1630, a fleet of 17 ships carrying over 1000 passengers set sail from Yarmouth, England to Salem, Massachusetts. It was under the command of Massachusetts Governor John Winthrop, who sailed with 400 emigrants aboard the flagship “Arabella.” This 28-gun ship also transported the Charter of the Massachusetts Bay Company to Salem, thereby giving legal birth to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The fourth and fifth contenders are KILLED STRANGELY: A NEW ENGLAND MURDER STORY  and THE HOLOCAUST STORY OF A TEENAGE VICTIM (Part 1)   Killed Strangely… is a book review revealing information on a very interesting murder trial, which explores the issues of family dysfunction and elderly abuse in 1673 New England. The Holocaust series featured in the holocaust category (https://carolyncholland.wordpress.com/category/holocaust/) arose from interviews with the late Bob Mendler, who experienced Holocaust death camps during his teenage years. Again, these two issues are human abuse issues.

Yes, these items have been among those which were posted for an extended period. However, they are still being “hit,” and show up regularly in the TOP POSTS list—which indicates to me that they still have relevancy, and may even carry an important lesson to my readers.

And is that not one goal of doing posts on blogs?

  2. I believe everything wrote made a lot of sense. However, what about this?
suppose you were to create a awesome headline? I mean, I don’t wish to tell you how to run your website, however suppose you added something that grabbed folk’s attention? I mean Statistical Analysis of
My WordPress.com Blog | CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS is kinda boring.

You ought to look at Yahoo’s front page and see how they create news titles to grab viewers to open the links.
You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people excited about everything’ve got to say.

In my opinion, it might bring your posts a little livelier.
