 God’s Expectations and Your Expectations

Today we close out the first week of looking at the Godly, moral life in general terms.  I’d like you to answer three questions as we prepare to move forward to study specific instructions from God: What does God expect of you? What do your family and others expect of you? And what do you expect of yourself?

Exercises for February 23:

  1. What does God expect of you? (If you need help, you might want to look at what Moses wrote in Deuteronomy 6:1-9)
    1. (ovel) ________ the Lord God
    2. (orziemem) _____________God’s laws
  1. (altk butoa)_____________God’s laws to others

Moses said to Israel:

1The LORD told me to give you these laws and teachings, [a] so you can obey them in the land he is giving you. Soon you will cross the Jordan River and take that land. 2And if you and your descendants want to live a long time, you must always worship the LORD and obey his laws. 3Pay attention, Israel! Our ancestors worshiped the LORD, and he promised to give us this land that is rich with milk and honey. Be careful to obey him, and you will become a successful and powerful nation. 4Listen, Israel! The LORD our God is the only true God! [b] 5So love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, and strength. 6Memorize his laws 7and tell them to your children over and over again. Talk about them all the time, whether you’re at home or walking along the road or going to bed at night, or getting up in the morning. 8Write down copies and tie them to your wrists and foreheads to help you obey them. 9Write these laws on the door frames of your homes and on your town gates. Deuteronomy 6:1-9 (CEV)

  1. What do your family and others expect of you?

I love that passage! I looked it up and then opened by chance to Psalm 119:

Happy are they whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
Happy are they who observe his decrees, who seek him with all thier heart,
    And do no wrong,
    but walk in his ways.
You have commanded that your precepts be dilligently kept.
Oh that I might be firm in the ways of keeping your statutes!
Then should I not be put to shame when I beheld all your commands.
I will give you thanks with an upright heart, when I have learned your just ordinances.
    I will keep your statutes;
    do not utterly forsake me.

That’s what I like about God. He wants us to be happy and very clearly tells us exactly how to do it…over and over and over again.

Thank you again for these daily readings!

Love these passages they are so soothing to read. They help to inspire me to continue the direction that God wishes me to walk. Oh clearly God wants us to be happy. Let us not forsake him in believing that if we are happy we are truly following his word. I know personally that I struggle everyday to choose the right path by choosing the right words, the right thoughts, and the right deeds in my life to honor him. What an added blessing these passages are in my life.
