The Third Source of Help: Jesus said, “I came that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest.” (John 10:10)

3. The teachings of Jesus are recorded in the four Gospels. Jesus lived the same way he tells us how to live.

In the Gospels we find numerous teachings that come directly from Jesus’ words, through the numerous stories he told. We are familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan (which came after Jesus answered the question, “Who is my neighbor” by giving the commandment to love one’s neighbor as oneself). The parable explains whom Jesus calls a neighbor—he made the point that a neighbor is one who helps out a person in need.

Jesus also spoke about love, discrimination, lust for the other sex, anger, and fair treatment of creditors.

Jesus gave us three years, partially recorded in the Gospels, of living the Godly, moral life. These stories are crucial to our understanding of the Godly, moral lifestyle.

Exercises for Day 04: Without actually reading the Gospels, think about Jesus. You may not be so sure about some of these answers. As the study goes on these answers should become clearer.

  1. If someone on the street asks you who Jesus is, how would you answer?
  2. Retell a story where Jesus does something good for another person. If you need an example, read Mark 1:40-41.
  3. Name a person you would like Jesus to change. What would you like Jesus to change about him or her?
  4. What is the biggest thing that Jesus has changed about you, or that you would like Jesus to change about you?
