MY LABOR DAY WEEKEND

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS
MY LABOR DAY WEEKEND

It’s Labor Day weekend, and, for me, there are several reasons to celebrate. Monte and I celebrate our 42nd anniversary September 3. Although it doesn’t fall on the holiday this year,  the year we were married the wedding was on Labor Day weekend. I recall traveling into New England on Monday evening, September 5. We pretty much had the road to ourselves. However, the opposing traffic was bumper to bumper—travelers leaving the beautiful New England coast for home, where children would be in school the next day.

Again, we are traveling on Labor Day weekend. However, the traffic will be horrendous, as we are headed to New England via Philadelphia. The illogical route is due to the fact that I need to do some research in Philly, and it is more practical to do it this way than to travel to Philly, back home and then go to New England. I expect to be buried in 1790s documents for several days, one of them being our anniversary. No time, energy to celebrate that day—a long day at the Pennsylvania Historical Society will be too tiring.

However, upon leaving Philly we will head to Rhode Island. This will be down time, during which I hope to do minimal writing/genealogical research, and perhaps do some touristy stuff that I haven’t taken time to do on previous trips. This, then, will be our true time to celebrate our marriage.

Our Labor Day celebration will take place on Sunday, when my new son-in-law Michael holds his annual Labor Day picnic. It should be a fun day!

During the trip, I will write journal pages. When I did this on previous vacations, I emailed persons who were interested. This time, however, I will post the pages on this site, and anyone wanting to read them can click here. The writing will not necessarily be great (I proof the items when I arrive home) but the idea is to let people know what we are doing, etc. For examples of this writing visit the NEW ENGLAND category on my site.

Meanwhile, it’s time to celebrate Labor Day. For two posts pertinent to labor, click on
