BASIC BIBLICAL TEACHINGS FOR THE
GODLY AND MORAL LIFE: 2
Guest writer Monte W. Holland
For some time, my husband, Monte, has been concerned about today’s young generation and the ethical behavior, which they are exposed to in today’s society. He sees the inconsistencies in what they experience in society and what is taught by Biblical Scripture, where lessons on “The Godly, Moral Life,” are presented.
As a step in counteracting society’s UnGodly, Immoral life lessons, he developed a series of six lessons, one for each week in Lent, beginning today, Ash Wednesday. Each lesson is divided into seven daily sections. Below is an introduction for the first week, and a link to its entire writings, hosted by the Open Hands Ministry site. Open Hands is a ministry of the United Methodist Churches in the Ligonier, PA, area, which provides layettes for WIC babies in Westmoreland County, and operates second-hand clothing and furnishings stores in Stahlstown and Jeannette.

“Basic Biblical Teachings for the Godly and Moral Life” (adult version)
Lesson 2 (Wednesday March 4- March 10, 2009)
Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law they meditate day and night. They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3 NRSV)
Our detailed look at the Godly, moral life starts with the Law. The Bible teaches over and over that we should meditate on it. Psalm 119, the longest psalm by far, has section after section all devoted to the importance of the Law. Psalm 1 states that happy people delight in the Law and meditate on it day and night.
Day 1: The Ten Commandments (Part 1) – Exodus 20:1-11 (NRSV)
(also see Deuteronomy 5:1-15)
1God said to the people of Israel:
2I am the LORD your God, the one who brought you out of Egypt where you were slaves.
3Do not worship any god except me. (to continue reading click on http://www.methodists-care.org/)

The Easter Story as told by Mary

THE EASTER STORY WILL BE TOLD!
In long, long ago times, a special baby was born.
I’d love to share that birth story with you—the miracle of birth itself, the struggles, hopes and dreams of and for this special baby—but that is the Christmas story.
We are here today to hear the Easter story.
