Open Hands Ministries: The Stahlstown Boutique

CAROLYN’S COMPOSITIONS

OPEN HANDS MINISTRIES: THE STAHLSTOWN (PA) BOUTIQUE

Monte Holland

During the holiday season, and at other times for shopping, some of us tend to forget the service stores in our communities. There we can find new or gently used clothing, gift items and furnishings. They accept donations of these items, and operate using volunteer help. Below is a post on one such store: the Stahlstown Boutique in Stahlstown, PA.

Are you in need of a special Christmas outfit? Are you looking for a special Christmas gift? Or do you have a special outfit you can no longer wear, which needs to find a home elsewhere?

You might be surprised that the Ligonier (PA) area has a special place to shop and donate—the Stahlstown Boutique, which sells good used clothing at very modest prices. The Boutique also sells some furnishings, small appliances, and household items.

It is located in the Cook Township Community Center on Rt. 711, south of Ligonier.

The Boutique is operated by the Open Hands Ministries, which has served the greater Ligonier Valley area for over ten years. They recently opened a Boutique in Jeanette.

In this season of giving and sharing, consider supporting local outreach by donating good used clothing, shopping at the boutiques, or by volunteering.

Open Hands Ministries depends on volunteers in the boutiques and donations of good used clothing, layette items, and cash. You are also welcome to shop at the boutiques.

Funds from the Boutique sales help complete layettes, made by local church groups, which are presented to babies born to needy Westmoreland County families. Open Hands Ministries accepts layette items and cash to complete the sets.

In addition to the Boutiques and layette provisions, the ministry has work teams which do building repairs and build ramps for needy families.

To learn more about Open Hands Ministries and ways you can support this outreach, visit the Open Hands Ministries website at www.Methodists-care.org. NOTE: The Methodists-care site has been discontinued due to a lack of active participation.

    Great organization!

When my dad was undergoing chemo for lung cancer he fell and broke his hip. Open Hands Ministry Volunteers came out on a saturday and built a large ramp for him so that he could use a wheel chair to go to his chemo treatments. No one would take money for their time or the wood used in building the ramp.

After dad passed away, they left the ramp on the house and requested only that should the house be sold, we return all the wood used to build the ramp.

The organization survives on donations, clothing boutigue etc. and voulunteers.
